Special minimum wage rates will rise by the same amount with the student minimum wage increasing from $10.70 per hour to $10.90 per hour and the liquor servers minimum wage increasing from $9.90 per hour to $10.10 per hour.

The Ontario government plans to increase the minimum wage again to $14.00 per hour on January 1, 2018, and to $15.00 per hour on January 1, 2019, in accordance with Bill 148, the Fair Workplaces, Better Jobs Act, which is expected to be passed by the Ontario legislature this fall. Following the intended January 2019 increase, it is expected that the minimum wage will return to being increased by a moderate amount each year in accordance with the inflation rate.
